What size outboard do I need for my boat?
Choosing the right horsepower depends on several factors:
- Boat length and weight
- Hull design (aluminum, fiberglass, inflatable)
- Intended use (fishing, cruising, watersports)
- Number of passengers and gear
General guideline: We recommend staying within 70–85% of your boat’s maximum rated horsepower (found on the capacity plate) for optimal performance and fuel efficiency.

What’s the difference between two-stroke and four-stroke outboards?
| Feature | Two-Stroke | Four-Stroke |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | Lighter | Heavier |
| Fuel efficiency | Lower | Higher |
| Emissions | Higher (older models) | Cleaner |
| Maintenance | Simpler, no oil changes | More complex, requires oil changes |
| Noise | Louder | Quieter |
| Best for | Performance, lightweight boats | Cruising, fishing, daily use |
Modern direct-injection two-strokes (like Evinrude E-TEC) offer improved efficiency and lower emissions compared to older two-strokes.(FAQ)
