Wilwood 140-14928-R SX6R Big Brake Dynamic Front Brake Kit

The Wilwood SX6R Dynamic front kit is a complete six-piston big brake upgrade built around a 14-inch vented, slotted rotor. It replaces a factory single- or twin-piston setup on a 5 on 4.5″ bolt pattern with a forged aluminum caliper, aluminum hats, and braided lines in the box.

The Wilwood SX6R is a front-axle kit. Everything needed to mount it to a factory disc spindle is included; spindles, master cylinder, booster, and rear components are not.

Check These Three Things Before You Order

Wheel clearance. The Wilwood SX6R requires a minimum 18-inch wheel. A 17-inch wheel will not clear the caliper, and wheel offset and spoke design matter as much as diameter. Measure before ordering.

Bolt pattern. The Wilwood SX6R is cut for 5 on 4.5″ (5×114.3mm) hubs. If your vehicle runs 5×120, 5×100, or anything else, this is the wrong part number.

Parking brake. There is no parking brake provision in this kit. That is normal for a front big brake kit — the parking brake lives at the rear axle — but confirm your rear setup retains one before committing.

Not certain about fitment? Use our compatibility check before ordering. On a $3,250 kit that step is worth five minutes.

What the Six-Piston Caliper Actually Buys You

The Wilwood SX6R runs six pistons per caliper. Six pistons spread clamping force across a longer pad than a two-piston caliper can. That means more even pad wear, less taper, and more consistent bite as the pad heats up.

The forged aluminum body resists flex under hard braking. A caliper that spreads under pressure gives you a long, soft pedal — the sensation most people mistake for fluid boiling. Stiffer caliper, firmer pedal.

The 14-inch rotor adds leverage and thermal mass. More mass means the Wilwood SX6R absorbs more heat before fade sets in, which is why big brake kits matter more on repeated stops than on any single one.

Rotor, Pad, and Bedding Notes

Wilwood SX6R rotors use Spec-37 iron, a higher-carbon alloy, chosen for crack resistance under thermal cycling rather than for outright cost. The slotted face wipes gas and pad debris off the friction surface, which keeps bite consistent lap after lap.

ProMatrix pads are a street-biased compound. They bite when cold, which is what you want on the road — if this vehicle sees regular track time, plan on a dedicated track compound as a second set.

For best results: Wilwood SX6R rotors ship unbedded. Bed the pads properly before hard use, following Wilwood’s published procedure, or you will glaze the pads and chase a vibration that isn’t warped rotors. Our installation guides cover the basics, and Wilwood publishes the bedding sequence for this pad compound.

Balancing the System

Adding the Wilwood SX6R to the front axle shifts brake bias forward. On most street cars the factory proportioning valve absorbs this, but if you are also changing rear brakes, master cylinder, or pad compound, the system needs to be looked at as a whole.

Pair the Wilwood SX6R with a matched rear kit rather than mixing brands. The AERO4 rear brake kit is the common partner, and the AERO4 rear kit with parking brake provision is the choice if you need to retain a mechanical park brake.

Comparing options first? The Forged Narrow Superlite 6R front kit is the narrower-caliper alternative for tighter wheel packages, and the full brake systems range covers other applications.

Ordering and Support

Can’t find your application? Submit a part request and we will source the correct Wilwood SX6R or alternative part number for your bolt pattern and spindle. For build-level questions — bias, master cylinder sizing, wheel fitment — book a technical consultation.

Brake system installation should be carried out by a qualified technician. Review our warranty information and shipping information before ordering.
