Lincoln Bulldog 5500 Welder Generator for Sale — 4,000W AC Power + 140A Stick Welding
The Lincoln Bulldog 5500 welder generator is the machine you buy when you need welding power and jobsite electricity from one unit you can lift onto a truck bed by yourself. It ships here with the Lincoln canvas cover included (K2708-2 and K2804-1 together), in stock and ready to go out.
Rated 4,000 watts continuous and 5,500 watts surge, it runs grinders, work lights, submersible pumps, compressors and motor-start loads. When the power goes out at home or on site, the same unit becomes your emergency generator.
Price: $2,220.00 — in stock, free shipping.
What the Bulldog 5500 Actually Does
On the welding side, the Bulldog handles AC stick welding up to a 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) electrode, with 140 amps of maximum output and a 30% duty cycle at 125A (60% at 100A). That covers general repair work, farm and ranch fabrication, light structural tacking, gate and trailer repair, and mild steel or stainless jobs with the right rod.
This is an AC-only machine. There is no DC output and no DC welding, so rods that require DC — 6010 in particular — are not an option. Plan on 6011, 6013, 7018AC or 308L AC-rated stainless rod.
On the generator side you get single-phase AC power for tools and lights. Contractors use it for temporary site power before the service is energized. Homeowners buy it as a dual-purpose unit: welder when there is a project, backup power when there is a storm.

Built to Get Thrown in a Truck
The 1-1/4 in. diameter tube frame wraps the machine on all sides, so it survives being slid across a steel deck and knocked by a toolbox. Lincoln’s patented low-lift grab bars sit where your hands actually want them, which matters at 255 lbs when you are loading and unloading alone.
The included canvas cover is not a throw-in. A welder generator that lives outdoors or in an open trailer collects water in the control panel, and that is what kills these units early. Cover it every time.
Who This Bulldog 5500 Welder Generator Is Right For
Buy it if: you want one portable unit for stick repair work plus jobsite or backup power, you weld occasionally rather than all day, and your budget is around the $2,000 mark.
Look higher up the range if: you need DC welding, MIG or TIG capability, higher amperage for thick structural work, or all-day duty cycles. In that case compare the Hobart Champion Elite 225, the Lincoln Outback 185, or the Miller Blue Star 185. For serious multi-process production work, step up to the Lincoln Ranger 260 MPX.
For best results, size your generator load before you buy. Add up the running watts of everything you will plug in at once, then leave headroom for the surge when a motor kicks on.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can the Lincoln Bulldog 5500 weld with 6010 rod? No. The Bulldog is an AC-only machine, and 6010 requires DC positive. Use 6011 for deep penetration on dirty or rusty steel, 6013 for lighter general work, and 7018AC where you need a low-hydrogen bead.
How thick of steel can it weld? With a 1/8 in. electrode at 140 amps, single-pass work up to roughly 1/4 in. is realistic. Thicker material is possible with a proper bevel and multiple passes, but a heavier DC machine is the better tool above that.
What can I run off the 4,000 watts of generator power? A 4-1/2 in. or 7 in. grinder, work lights, a small compressor, a submersible pump, or a chop saw — one or two at a time. The 5,500-watt surge covers motor start-up. Keep total continuous draw under 4,000 watts.
Is it big enough for home backup power? For essentials, yes — refrigerator, lights, fans, a furnace blower, phone and laptop charging. It will not run central air conditioning or an electric range. Never plug a generator into a wall outlet; use a transfer switch installed by a licensed electrician.
Does it come with the cover? Yes. This listing is the K2708-2 machine bundled with the K2804-1 Lincoln canvas cover.
What does K2708-2 mean? That is Lincoln Electric’s manufacturer part number for the Bulldog 5500 unit. K2804-1 is the part number for the canvas cover. Both are covered by this single SKU, ILIN20140011.
How heavy is it and can one person move it? It weighs 255 lbs. The low-lift grab bars are designed for two-person lifting onto a truck bed. One person can tip and roll it on flat ground, but do not attempt a solo lift.
What warranty comes with it? Three years from Lincoln Electric, plus our own returns process. See warranty information for full terms.
Do you ship internationally? Yes — see shipping information for lead times and destinations.
